Description
Forge Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from locally sourced lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a thatched roof featuring plain gables and brick end chimney stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The windows are moulded timber-framed, with three lights in most cases, except for the upper centre window, which has two lights. These windows have rectangular leaded panes and iron-framed opening lights. The upper windows are set into the thatch, while the lower ones feature labels made of lias stone, differing from the more common Ham stone. The central doorway has a 20th-century part-glazed door beneath a timber lintel and is sheltered by an open porch made of stone, timber, and tiles. There is a single-storey extension on the south gable, which has a clay pantiled roof, a small-pane casement window with two lights, and a tall rendered chimney stack. The interior has not been seen.
