Description

Two houses, now shops and offices, were built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of painted Flemish-bond brick with a pantile roof and a brick stack to the right party wall. Numbers 2A and 4 are of a two-unit plan with a rear outshut to the left, while number 2 has a double-depth plan. Numbers 2A and 4 have a three-window front, and number 2 has a one-window front. Numbers 2A and 4 have 8/8 sash windows on the first floor, flanking a 6/6-pane sash. A 20th-century six-panel door is set below a painted-over semicircular fanlight, which has a reeded keystone to a moulded archivolt with "CRESCENT HOUSE" painted on it. A flat arch with stepped stone voussoirs is above a 20th-century 8/8 sash window, and a 20th-century shopfront is to the left. Number 2 has a vertical joint on the left side, flat gauged brick arches with keystones to 8/8 sash windows on both floors, and a 20th-century six-panel door to the right. The right gable end adjoins 10 Clare Street, which is of the same date. The interior has been altered.
