Description
13 and 15 York Buildings are two houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of Flemish-bond brick with stone shouldered copings, stepped voussoirs, cills, and steps, topped with pantile roofs and brick stacks at the gable ends. The houses have an L-shaped plan and rise to three storeys, each featuring a two-window range. The street angles at this location, with No. 13 facing northeast and serving as a rear right wing to No. 15, which faces northwest and has a blank gable end on the left return.
The windows of No. 13 have flat arches with stepped stone voussoirs; the second-floor windows are 3/3-pane sashes, the first floor has 6/6-pane sashes, and the ground floor has an 8/8-pane sash on the left. To the right, there is a six-panel door featuring two beaded panels below four raised-and-fielded panels, topped with a semicircular fanlight that has radiating glazing bars. This door is set within an open pedimented doorcase with restored pilasters.
No. 15 has windows that also face northwest and are similar to those of No. 13, but the left side features tripartite windows. The ground-floor left window is a 4/4-pane sash, while the ground-floor right window is a French window with two panes in the overlight. The interiors have not been inspected.
