Description
Knowle House is a semi-detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from small Cary stone rubble that is uncoursed, with larger stones used for the quoins. The house features a Welsh slate roof with plain gables and brick chimney stacks. It stands two storeys high and has two bays. The sash windows have 16 panes and are set under timber lintels, with the lower windows being larger. The lower bay 1 has a 6-panel door, with the top panels being glazed, framed by a plain ashlar surround and topped with a flat timber hood supported by brackets. The interior has not been seen.
Three metres from the house, there are simple spiked railings on a low plinth wall, along with a cast-iron gate that features a Greek key motif on the middle rail and diamond patterned standards. The railings return directly to the house on the north side, while on the south side, there is a curved wall that rises about one metre high and connects back to the house. These elements contribute to the setting of the house and enhance the streetscape. Knowle House is built in a similar style to Maxdene, which is attached to its north side.
