Description
Scotland House is a house located in a row on South Street, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of local stone that is roughly coursed, and it was probably rendered originally. The roof is made of plain clay tiles and features stepped coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks. The building stands two storeys high and has three bays. There is a plinth made of lias stone, and the house has 20-pane sash windows that are set under timber lintels. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with glazed toplights, situated in a recess with panelled reveals. This entrance is framed by a 19th-century door surround that includes a fluted architrave, a quasi-entablature, and a small flat hood. The interior has not been seen. Scotland House served as a private school during the early 20th century.
