Description
The Former Congregational Chapel, dated 1815, is a building that has undergone two extensions in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with Cary stone rubble used in the most recent extension, and features a hipped Welsh slate roof. The chapel is mostly a single storey, but the last extension to the west is two storeys high. Originally, the chapel consisted of two bays, with a third bay added later to match the original design. The earliest part of the building has rusticated stone quoins, and the windows are 'Y'-traceried under pointed arches with keystones. The later two-storey extension includes late 19th-century sash windows and doors, with a doorway located under a slate porch in the north wall. The grounds and interior are not accessible, but a previous listing notes a flat plaster ceiling. The chapel is situated on the site of the former Golden Lion Inn and has reportedly been unused for several years as of January 1985. It is included in the register primarily for its group value and local historical interest.
