Description
The south and east boundary walls, railings, and gates to South Cottage were mostly built in the 19th century. The south and part of the east boundary consists of Cary stone rubble topped with Doulting stone copings, reaching an average height of 3 metres. At the corner, there are 20th-century ashlar gate piers with wrought-iron gates. The remaining section of the east boundary wall, which aligns with South Cottage, features a lias ashlar base wall that varies in height from 600 millimetres to 1.2 metres. This is capped by 1 metre high wrought-iron railings with spear-tops and curve-braced standards. This boundary structure not only enhances the setting of South Cottage but also plays an important role in the streetscape at a focal point.
