Description
The Countryman Inn and Alma Cottages are a row of cottages built as one structure in the early 19th century. They are constructed from roughly cut and squared Cary stone and feature a plain clay tile roof with stepped coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks at the ends and in between. The building has two storeys and consists of four bays, with the southernmost two bays serving as the inn. The windows are sash style, with six panes in all bays except for bay four, which has 16-pane sashes. Bays one and two have late 20th-century false shutters, and all openings are topped with voussoired flat arches that include keystones. There are plain doorways located between bays one and two, to the right of bay three, and to the left of bay four, all featuring later 20th-century doors. There are some extensions at the rear of the building. The interior has not been seen. The inn was formerly known as The Clarence and is included in the listing primarily for its group and streetscape value.
