Description
Brook Barn is a former flax barn that has been converted into a house, likely dating from the late 18th century. The structure is built of ham stone rubble with ashlar quoins, featuring a red brick south flank. It has a Welsh slate roof with coped gables, a stone ridge, and copings that are stepped with roll finials. The south elevation is two stories high and has six bays, with segmental arched windows that now contain steel infill casements. Between the windows, there are small blocked openings measuring 650 millimeters high by 300 millimeters wide, each with ham stone lintels, present on both levels. The interior boasts heavy beams of industrial capacity. There are modern extensions on the east and north sides. Brook Barn is part of the former Bridge House and Hayward family complex, associated with their flax business, and has been carefully converted.
