Description

Breach Farm House is a farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is built of local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings, and has a half-hipped thatched roof, with brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has random window placement, originally reflecting a through passage plan. Most windows are casement windows with exposed timber lintels. However, on the west elevation is a mullioned window with three lights, featuring an underdressed top and a label. The windows are plain boarded. A projection on the east side dates back to the early construction of the house. Later extensions were added to the north and south gables; the north extension includes a first-floor granary with a Welsh slate roof and stone steps leading up on the north side, while a dairy is incorporated under the thatch on the south side. Inside, there are collar-trussed rafters, a partially concealed 17th-century fireplace on the south gable, and an early board and strip partition on the landing. The house has seen little alteration since the 19th century.
