Description
This is a row of seven cottages located on The Cross in Minehead. The cottages are divided into two groups, with three cottages dating to the 18th century on the left and four cottages dating to the mid-19th century on the right. The exterior is painted roughcast over rubble stone, with a mix of roof materials including tarred slate (Nos. 15 & 17), asbestos slate (Nos. 7-13) and slate (No. 19). Brick stacks are present in the party walls, at the left gable end, and at the rear of No. 11. The cottages are typically two storeys with a single window range per cottage. The three cottages on the left (Nos. 7, 9, and 11) are slightly lower than the rest. The windows are 19th-century two-light casements, however the first-floor windows of Nos. 7, 9, and 11 are set at eaves level. The cottages have 19th-century planked doors; those at Nos. 7 and 9 are adjacent under a shared hood supported by brackets, while the door at No. 11 has a smaller figure statue placed above it and a door to the right. Openings to the later cottages (Nos. 13-19) are shallow segmental arches, with two-light casement windows with small panes. 20th-century doors are present at the outer ends of the row and paired in the centre, except at No. 15. The interiors were not inspected.
