Description
The coach house and stables, located about 25 metres north-north-east of No 3 High Street, date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from local stone rubble with Doulting stone ashlar dressings and feature a hipped plain clay tile roof. The building is two storeys high with a three-bay elevation facing Higher Backway. The first bay has an elliptical arch with a plain surround, while the second bay contains a pointed arch doorway with a studded door and a finial, which may have originated from the demolished Bruton Abbey. The third bay has modern garage doors. Above the central doorway, there is a circular opening in square stone that is now blocked. At the rear, which faces the garden, there is a central pointed arch doorway flanked by pointed arch windows with "Y" tracery. This structure is significant as part of the setting for No 3 High Street.
