Description
Willow Vale House and The Willows are a pair of buildings, originally one house, located in Willow Vale. The core of Willow Vale House was built before 1741, and an extension, known as The Willows, was added in 1816 by John Olive, a dyer. The buildings are constructed from coursed rubble, topped with an overall cornice and parapet. Willow Vale House is two storeys high with five windows. These windows are sash windows set in raised architraves. A portico with a flat entablature supported by two Roman Doric columns provides access to a panelled front door. The Willows section has three large sash windows on the first floor, protected by wrought-iron window guards. A partly brick and timber extension was added to the rear of the house in the mid-19th century. The front of the property is accessed by a pitched path. Inside Willow Vale House, the staircase has a straight string, turned balusters, and a heavy handrail. The staircase appears to have been moved to its current position, possibly during the 1816 extension. Ground floor rooms in Willow Vale House feature reeded architraves dating to 1816.
