Description

Corner House is an early 19th-century house situated on a prominent corner location. The house is built of local stone, which has been rendered and colourwashed, with stone dressings. It has a Welsh slate roof with plain gables and a rounded hip at the southeast corner, and brick chimney stacks. The building has three storeys, with one bay facing Cow Square, one bay on the curved corner, and two bays facing North Street. Rendered pilaster strips run vertically along the facade. The windows are 16-pane sashes on the ground and first floors, and 12-pane sashes on the second floor. The windows in the curved bay are set within openings finished with toothed rendering. A two-panel door is set into a semi-circular arched recess with a radial glazed fanlight above, flanked by simple impost blocks. A second two-panel door, with a rectangular fanlight above, is located to the right. The interior of the house has not been inspected. Approximately 1.5 metres from the house on both street frontages are boundary railings with alternating hoops and cast acanthus tops. Matching double gates are on the corner and a single gate is positioned opposite the main door. These railings contribute to the setting of the house, which occupies an important corner site.
