Description
The railings, gate, and gate piers located about 9 meters south of Donisthorpe are likely from the 18th century. They are made of wrought iron and sit on stone plinths that are now mostly buried. The design features plain waisted and collared spikes with leaf curls at the bases to deter small animals, along with thick braced standards topped with urn finials. The gate piers have scroll open-work on all four sides, with repousse work on the tops, and the ornate gate matches this design. This set is a rare example of high-quality 18th-century ironwork in a small town setting, although it was noted to be in poor condition during a survey in June 1984.
