Description

A circa 1858 iron railing system set within a red sandstone wall, fronting numbers 4 and 6 Priest Street, Williton, and extending for 5 to 10 metres to the east and west. The wall is constructed of slightly raked, squared and coursed red sandstone with chamfered Bath stone copings. It incorporates inset, enriched dwarf cast iron railings, forming the entrance to a former police station. The gates are of matching design. The gatepiers are of squared and coursed red sandstone with quoins, and similar piers mark the angles of the arrangement. The railings and wall are set back, creating a recess, and sweep upwards slightly to the left and right. The railings are likely by John Norton.
