Description
Pilton House is a house dated on the doorway to "16 IH 29", with its exterior predominantly from the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with dressed flush quoins, featuring a very deep moulded cornice, an ashlar parapet with a moulded coping, and sunken oblong panels at intervals above each bay. The roof is slate with coped verges and three ashlar ridge stacks with moulded caps. The building has a cross passage plan with later wings at right angles to the rear. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-bay by two-bay layout, showcasing 16-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves. The door opening is nearly centered and features a moulded stone surround with a 4-centre arch that incorporates the date and initials, leading to a 19th-century six-panelled door with the top four panels glazed, and a label set over it. Inside, the left ground floor room has 18th-century panelling and a fireplace with an early 19th-century fluted marble surround. The right ground floor room has a cross beam ceiling adorned with 18th-century coved plasterwork, and there is an early 19th-century staircase.
