Description
Rose Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 16th or 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of rubble and cob, with some areas rendered, and features a thatched roof supported by two brick stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a layout of two bays on the left and one bay on the right. The left two bays contain four 2- and 3-light 19th-century tye casements, with the eaves rising over the pair on the first floor. The right bay has a small 3-light casement on the first floor and a 20th-century three-light casement on the ground floor. There is a door opening between the bay sets, featuring a massive architrave with a depressed-arch head and a plank door. To the left, there is a lower outshut with a double-Roman tiled roof and some weatherboarding, along with a 20th-century garage door. The gable face on the right return is timber-framed. Inside, there are remains of a cruck roof, as noted in an unpublished report from February 1973.
