Description
The gateway to the inner forecourt, located about 48 metres north of North Cadbury Court, dates from the 18th century and is constructed from Doulting stone. It features square gate piers with a moulded plinth and plain ashlar shafts that have a single fielded panel on the outside. The piers are topped with moulded cornice caps, which have steps and simple urn finials that culminate in small obelisks. On either side of the gateway, there are pedestrian gates set under segmental arches within flanking coped walls. The gates themselves are made of cast iron, likely from the 19th century, and are designed with barbed spearpoints on the middle rails and necked points at the top. This gateway holds significant group value with North Cadbury Court and its former stable wing.
