Description

Ilford Bridge is a road bridge over a stream, built in 1799 or 1800. It is the most westerly of a series of three bridges. Constructed from cut and squared ham stone, it features a single semi-circular arch and a plain level parapet with shaped coping. The west end has no notable features and the bridge continues eastward towards Ilton Bridge No 2, with walls of the same height but with flaunching instead of coping stones. The bridge was built by the Ilminster Trust, and the road it spans, which connects Curry Rivel to Chard via Ilminster, was turnpiked in 1759.
