Description

Dewdney's House is a detached farmhouse that was rebuilt around 1710. It is constructed from cut and squared ham stone and features a thatched roof with coped gables, including an urn finial on the south gable. The house has brick chimney stacks, one of which has a traditional baffle. It is two storeys tall with attics and consists of three bays.

The windows on the lower level are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses, featuring three lights with rectangular leaded panes and iron-framed opening lights in the centers, all with labels. Above these, there are three 20th-century windows in reconstructed stone surrounds. In the second bay on the lower level, there is a boarded door set to the left in a deep recess, which is sheltered by an open timber and thatched porch. The south gable has two 3-light windows on both the ground and first floors, as well as a 2-light window in the attic. Near the top of the gable, there is a date plaque that is incised with "HB 1710(?)".

The rear, east elevation features leaded casement windows and French doors. There is an open extension against the north gable that appears to reuse another 3-light mullioned window. The interior has not been seen, but it is reported to have a two-root plan with additions to the rear, likely reshaping an earlier building. The staircase features turned balusters, straight grip handrails, and capped newel posts with pendants, dating from around 1700, and it rises to the attics. The hall has a chamfered framed ceiling, and the roof includes collar and tie-beam trusses.
