Description

Ilford Bridge is a road bridge over a stream, located in Ilton and likely built around 1800, although it was widened in 1912/13. The bridge is constructed from cut and squared Ham stone. It features a semi-circular arch on the south side and a flat arch on the north side where it was widened. The bridge has a plain level parapet with shaped coping stones. There are no notable features at the east end, but it continues westward towards Ilton no.1 Bridge, with walls of the same height that have flaunching instead of coping stones. The bridge is maintained by the Ilminster Trust, which turnpiked the road from Curry Rivel to Chard, via Ilminster, in 1759.
