Description
The railings and piers to the forecourt of the Baptist Church, built in 1842, feature central double gates set on plain rough ashlar piers with plain coping. These gates are flanked by matching railings that span the width of the forecourt. The railings have cast-iron moulding coping atop a low stone plinth. Substantial square balusters with moulded bases support a moulded rail, with alternate balusters topped by stylized anthemion finials. At both the far left and right are tall cast-iron trellises with cornices, each surmounted by anthemions enclosed in semi-circular arches. Below these trellises is a decorative pattern of scrolls, circles, and anthemiae.
