Description

Thorney Mill is a watermill for grinding corn, dating to 1823. The building is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, with coped verges, a slate roof, 20th-century rubble stacks, and a ball finial. It has a rectangular plan and is arranged over three storeys with five bays. The windows are 3-light iron casements with cast glazing bars in wooden frames, featuring cambered heads and freestone keys. There are two identical door openings, one above the other on the left side, each with paired 6-panelled doors, the top four panels of each being glazed. An iron overshot wheel is located on the right return, with a gabled tile housing. The interior retains its original machinery, which is in working order.
