Description

Shovel Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on Cliff Road in North Petherton. It features roughcast walls and a thatched roof with brick end stacks. The cottage has a cross-passage plan and is a single storey with an attic, consisting of three bays. The ground floor has 19th-century two and three-light casements, while the first floor has 20th-century casements set in thatched gabled dormers. There is a central door opening with a studded plank door in a moulded surround, and a 20th-century trellis porch. At the rear, there is a later wing built at right angles to the main structure. Inside, the cottage has exposed ceiling beams and a fireplace with a broad wooden bressuier.
