Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church that dates back to the 15th century, with rebuilding and extensions occurring in 1810 and the late 19th century. It is constructed of local limestone rubble and ashlar, topped with a stone tile roof. The church features a nave with a south tower, north and south transepts, a south chapel, and a chancel, showcasing Decorated and Perpendicular architectural styles.
The tower, added in 1810, consists of three stages with corner buttresses that end in finials and are adorned with embattled parapets. It has two-light bell openings with quatrefoil interlace on the lower two stages. The interior is plain, featuring restored wagon roofs. The nave includes a four-light west window, early 19th-century wall plaques by Chapman of Frome and Crake of London, and a late 19th-century font. A Perpendicular arch remains intact between the south transept and the chapel. The chancel contains a restored piscina and some stained glass from 1902.
