Description

The Ashton monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 3 metres north of the tower of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of Ham stone. The base is buried, and the tomb features proudstanding panels with heavy framing mouldings—one flat panel on each side and one on a semi-circular curve at each end. The top is shaped with moulded coving and rounded leading edges. This monument commemorates John Ashton, who died in 1713.
