Description

A row of seven houses, dating to around 1650, stands on the north side of Great Ostruy in Shepton Mallet. Constructed of limestone rubble, the houses have coped verges with kneelers, brick stacks, and pantile roofs. They are of a uniform style, with each dwelling originally being two storeys high and featuring a dormer gable. Most have a single bay, though number 17 incorporates two dwellings into one. Windows are stone mullioned, with three lights on the facades and two lights in the gable ends, all featuring ovolo moulding. Angled labels are found above the windows. Each house originally had a door opening with a square head; a slab dripmould is still visible on number 13, with some moulded detail. The original six-panelled doors remain on some of the properties.
