Description

Ebenezer Methodist Chapel is a chapel built around 1730, according to written sources, and was rebuilt in 1811. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble and features a facade under a coped gable with an urn finial. The slate roof has a ridge that runs at right angles to the frontage. The chapel has a plain symmetrical front that is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has sash windows with glazing bars set in segmental-headed, bead-moulded stone surrounds that include keystones. Above the windows, there is a continuous moulded string course. The central door opening is framed by a moulded stone architrave with a triple keystone, leading to a plank door topped with a segmental pediment on moulded stone brackets. A painted oval stone plaque in the center of the gable is inscribed with "Ebenezer Isam 7 and 12, 1811."

Inside, the chapel features a galleried interior that is predominantly from the late 19th century, including pews and an elaborate pulpit with decorative cast iron paneling. The gallery, dating from 1811, is supported by twin columns flanking the central aisle and has a balustrade made up of five recessed panels. The plaster ceiling features a design of curved and blunted acanthus leaves, also from 1811.
