Description
The Baptist Chapel, also known as Ebenezer Chapel, is a 19th-century building dated 1836, located in Burrowbridge. It features a red brick construction in Flemish bond and a hipped slate roof with boxed eaves. The chapel is arranged in an L-plan, facing southwest, with a vestry and schoolroom at the rear. There is a hipped and gabled parallel range at the back, with a chimney rising from the eaves in the north corner.
The front façade includes two pointed arch-head windows with divided tracery and stepped stone surrounds, along with a rectangular plaque inscribed with "Ebenezer Chapel 1836." A hipped slate-roofed porch made of limestone has painted columns that support an arched and panelled lintel, leading to a semi-circular headed doorway with double panelled doors stained to resemble walnut.
On the left side of the building, there are two semi-circular headed windows with divided tracery heads. The projecting vestry is accessed by a square-headed plank door located in the re-entrant angle, and there is a one-bay addition beyond with a pointed arch window and a square-headed door. The interior of the chapel has not been seen. A porch was added and enlarged at the rear in the late 19th century.
