Description
The Old Mill House is a late 18th-century mill house that has been converted into a residential home. It is constructed of Flemish bond red brick with freestone dressings, topped with double Roman and pantile roofs and coped verges. The building consists of two connected sections that form an L-shaped block, with the main façade facing west.
This principal elevation features two storeys, a cornice, and a brick parapet with coping. It has three bays with sash windows that include glazing bars, all set within moulded architraves. To the left of the façade, there is an arched door opening with a pediment supported by brackets, leading to a six-panelled door where the top two panels are glazed.
The left side of the building has a rearward extending wing that includes an end gable with coping facing west. This section has two bays on each floor and an attic in the gable face, with sash windows in flush frames and glazing bars, along with a casement window in the attic. The return elevation has three bays with sash windows featuring glazing bars, except for one casement window. There are two door openings: one with a plank door and another with a six-panelled door, which also has the top two panels glazed, accompanied by a lattice porch.
At the rear of the property, there are remains of the former paper mill, and a chimney from that period still survives.
