Description

Mill House is a house, retaining its association with a mill, likely dating mainly to the early 19th century, although it may incorporate earlier fabric. It is believed the present mill is a replacement of an earlier structure. In the mid-19th century, extensions were added to match the original style. The house is constructed of brick with Flemish bond, featuring rubbed flat arches. Some walls have Flemish and Flemish Garden Wall bonds, with blue headers. The main part has a hipped slate roof with regularly spaced carved eaves brackets, while the rear service wing has a half-hipped tile roof. The south elevation is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and two windows, with a matching extension to the east containing an upper window that originally belonged to the ground floor. The west elevation, facing Mill Lane, is longer and has a later two-storey insertion between the former stable block (now a rear wing) and the main house, with a 3-window arrangement. Windows are primarily sash windows, with casements to the rear. A doorcase from the early 19th century features an open pediment, pilasters, an arched opening, a radiating fanlight, and a six-panelled door. A later 20th-century plain classical doorway has also been added.
