Description

Victory Hall is a building that originally served as a malthouse and brewery, and has been used as a village hall since 1921. It features a house at one end and an office at the other, located on Wickham Bridge Street. The structure mainly dates from the late 18th century, with extensions added in 1887. The walls are constructed of brick in English bond with blue headers, and there are cambered openings. The tile roof covers the main block, which is three storeys high and faces the River Meon, displaying a regular arrangement of four windows on the first floor and one window on the second. This block extends to the north with a two-storey section that has two windows. The courtyard side is less regular due to alterations and has extensions beneath a catslide roof. The 1887 additions include a wing that is perpendicular to the main block, featuring two storeys and irregular fenestration. A prominent feature of this section is a tall four-storey tower with vented openings at the top and a projecting boarded hoist at the second floor. The tower bears a stone plaque that reads 'Wickham Brewery rebuilt AD 1887 being the Jubilee Year of the Reign of H.M Queen Victoria'. The main entrance, added in 1921, consists of a timber-framed doorway with double doors on the street front elevation. There are also minor extensions at the rear.
