Description

The ruin of a former gatehouse, dating from around 1500, is located adjacent to Court Farmhouse. It is constructed from Doulting rubble and dressed stone. The structure features the base of moulded and chamfered remains that now form gate piers standing 1.5 metres high. To the right, there is a low wall with flat coping that extends for 9 metres, while a higher wall to the left measures 3 metres and incorporates reused stone. At the rear of the left pier, there is a further wall running at right angles, which includes a pair of pointed arch-headed door openings with deeply chamfered stone surrounds. Adjacent to the rear opening, there is a further moulded and chamfered base of an arch, with a cast iron hinge bracket set into the side. The gatehouse has group value with its surroundings.
