Description
This is a 19th-century wall with a gateway, extending 13 metres westwards from the southwest corner of the Hanging Chapel in Langport. The wall is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring Ham stone dressings. It stands approximately 3.5 metres high and has a Ham stone coping. The gateway includes piers adorned with bands of Ham stone and small panels of lias stone set within the brickwork. It flanks an elliptical archway that has a lias stone plinth, impost blocks, and a keystone. The gateway features a single wide boarded gate with a wicket. This wall is an important part of the street scene, located next to the Hanging Chapel. The gateway leads to Portcullis End, which is not of special interest.
