Description
The Old Forge is a detached house with origins dating back to the 17th century, which has been modified over time. It is constructed from cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings and features a double Roman clay tiled roof between stepped coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and comprises three bays.
On the lower level, there are ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with separate labels, internal vertical bars, and some wrought-iron opening lights, arranged in groups of three, three, and two lights. The upper bay three contains a slightly chamfered mullioned window with two lights, featuring unworked mitres at the top and bottom, and there are indications of a blocked doorway between bays two and three.
The east gable has two 20th-century metal windows above and a lean-to porch below, while the west gable features a single storey with an attic extension under a clay pantiled roof. The north side of this extension is plain, while the gable includes garage doors and a small-pane casement window set in weatherboarded cladding. Above, in the main gable of the house, there is a partly blocked single-light window. The entrance to the house is located at the rear. The interior has not been seen.
