Description

South Harp Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse that may have origins dating back to the 16th century, although it has been modified over time. The building is constructed from cut and squared Ham stone with ashlar dressings and features a thatched roof with coped gables. It has a 'U'-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall with four bays.

On the ground floor, there are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses, complete with labels, internal vertical iron bars, and iron-framed opening lights; bays one and two have four-light windows, while bay four has a five-light window. Above these, there are 20th-century timber casements. Bay three features a six-flush-panel door that is sheltered by a 19th-century brick and ashlar porch, which has a thatched roof behind a coped gable, topped with an obelisk finial. The porch has a segmental-arched doorway with a pair of 20th-century glazed doors.

On the gable, there is a fire insurance plaque depicting Britannia, inscribed with "West of England/Exeter (Company)." A 20th-century window is present in the west gable, and there is a single-storey range extending from the rear, which has a clay-tiled roof. The east end of this range includes a two-storey extension that projects northwards, with a roof ridge that is slightly higher than the main roof. This extension features a 20th-century casement window and shows signs of two blocked openings and two stones from a pointed archway. The north gable of this extension is built in Flemish bond brickwork with ashlar quoins. The interior has not been seen.
