Description
Thorny House is a building that was originally two gamekeepers' cottages, now converted into one house. It dates from 1835 and is constructed of local stone that is squared and coursed with a pecked finish. The roof is made of Welsh slate and features coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks at each end. The house is two stories tall and has three bays, with entrances located in the gable walls.
The windows are primarily 2-light casements set in plain openings, which have voussoired flat arches. The lower window in the second bay is a later addition, off centre, and has a cement surround. Beneath the central upper window, there is a carved plaque made of Ham stone bearing the arms of John Goodford of Chilton Cantelo, along with the date 1835. Additionally, there are horizontal sliding sash windows in the gable walls. It is noted that John Goodford passed away in 1835.
