Description
This is a 17th-century house located in Marston Magna, known as No 1, which features east front boundary railings. The building is constructed from local stone that is roughly squared and coursed, topped with plain clay tiles over two stone slate base courses and has coped gables with end brick stacks. It stands two stories high and has three bays. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door in a plain opening, accompanied by a timber porch. The house has three-light 19th-century casement windows, except for the window above the porch, which is a two-light ovolo moulded mullioned window without a label. The casement for this window is fitted with wrought iron butterfly catches. On the south side, there is a lean-to with a 20th-century door and window. The front boundary is marked by wrought iron railings with varying points on the uprights, and cast iron standards with urn finials are placed at intervals on a low stone wall. These railings are similar to those found at Wyndhams on Camel Street. The house is particularly noted for its contribution to the setting of the Church and Church Green.
