Description
The Old School House is a detached cottage from the 19th century, built from local lias stone that is cut and squared, and topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring overhung gables and concrete block end chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays, with an extension on the north gable. It features two-light lattice casements set in three-centre arched openings, with each light having a three-centre arched head and ornamental leadwork. There is no window in the upper bay of the second section; instead, there is a decorated roundel, possibly made of Coade stone. The lower bay three contains a six flush panel door with a glazed toplight in a segmental arched head, which is set in a rustic timber porch with a pitched stone slated roof. The single-storey extension to the north has a three-light casement window beneath a large timber beam. The interior has not been seen. Originally, this building served as the Village School before it became the Reading Room and was later converted into a house.
