Description
Nos 1-7 are four detached estate cottages built in the mid-19th century. They feature roughcast over rubble with decorative clay tile roofs and overhanging eaves. No 7 has a central brick stack, while Nos 1, 3, and 5 have external stacks at their right gable ends. The plan includes 2-cell and cross passage layouts for Nos 3 and 5, with Shepherds possibly being two dwellings that have single-storey outshots at the gable ends. No 1 may be a 3-cell cottage with a porch set back at the left gable end. All cottages are one and a half storeys high, with 2 or 3 bays and gabled dormers: three dormers for Shepherds and No 5, and two for Nos 1 and 3. They are fitted with late 19th-century, multi-paned, 2-light casement windows. No 1 features a buttress and a central window on the ground floor of its facade, with an entrance accessed through a gabled porch on the left return. No 3 has a central half-glazed 20th-century door, while No 5 has a central plank door. Shepherds has its entrance on the right return through a semi-circular headed opening in a double Roman tiled lean-to addition, with a slate-roofed addition on the left return that includes a casement window. These cottages form a notable group at the entrance to Dulverton on the B3222 road and were likely built as part of the Pixton Park estate.
