Description
Dulverton Laundry is a former crepe factory, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, which has been partly refenestrated in the mid to late 20th century. It is constructed of random rubble local stone with wooden panels between the windows and features a shallow pitched hipped slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan, originally identical on the north and south sides, with stairs located at the east end. It stands three storeys high and has five bays, with full height rubble piers, a rubble plinth, and a cornice. The second floor is divided by many-paned leaded wooden casements, including a 6-light end bay, two 4-light windows, one 3-light window, and a 5-light window below. The first floor has mostly been replaced with 20th-century plate glass, while the ground floor on the north face is obscured by later additions. The south face retains some original casements, and the right end bay has been panelled over with a square-headed entrance featuring a recessed 8-panel door with an inserted light. The upper two storeys are lit on the returns. The building has been commended by Pevsner as a good example of an early industrial structure.
