Description

Fountain House is a Grade II* listed building that was once the parsonage for Holy Trinity Church from 1856 until recently. It was built in 1818 and is characterized by its distinctive architecture. The main front faces northeast and features ashlar stonework with a slate roof. The central section of the house has three storeys, while the sides have two storeys, separated by pilasters.

The central part includes a two-storey, three-light bow window, with a window arrangement of 1:3:1, using glazing bar sashes. The ground floor side windows are set in arched recesses. Above the central unit, there is a pedimented attic, and the sides have a balustraded parapet, which is now made of artificial stone. A string course runs at the first floor level, and there is a moulded cornice.

On the road front, there are two windows and a large two-storey angled bay to the right, accompanied by a cornice and parapet with baluster panels over the windows. A hipped cross wing is situated over the bay. The porch is roughly central and features Tuscan columns with a half-glazed door that has two lower reeded panels. To the right, there is a rubble wall, which was formerly part of an outhouse, featuring a Tudor-arch doorway from around 1840, complete with a drip and panelled spandrels.

Inside, the room on the ground floor to the southeast has a segment-arched recess decorated with edge-ball motifs and a panelled soffit. The bay window room on the ground floor also has a similar recess. In the attic, the fireplace has a tracery panelled surround and tracery moulding on the cheeks of the contemporary grate.
