Description
Rowden House is a detached early Victorian villa located on Vallis Road. The building stands two storeys high and features three principal bays. It has a hipped slate roof with eaves and is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins, along with a band over the ground floor. A central projecting three-storey porch turret with a pyramidal roof is prominent, featuring a pedimented window on the first floor with a stone balcony and an arched window on the second floor. The ground floor has segment-headed plate glass sash windows, with two on each side of the turret; the inner ones are narrow, while the outer ones are tripartite. The entrance is marked by a heavily moulded archway, and there are ashlar chimneys with moulded capping. Inside, the villa has a tiled lobby and hall, a very good staircase with cast-iron balusters, and heavy ceiling cornices along with period fireplaces.
