Description

Fernside is a house likely dating from the early 17th century, with features from the 19th century and alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of painted rubble with a pantile roof, featuring coped verges, the right-hand verge having a ball finial. There are two brick stacks. The house likely originally had a cross-passage plan. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The windows are mainly 2- and 3-light casements, with a further small 4-panel casement to the right of the ground floor, and a half-dormer window with a pent roof over the left-hand bay on the first floor. A studded plank door with strap hinges is located between the second and third bays, and a further plank door with strap hinges provides access to a basement on the left. Inside, there are exposed ceiling beams and some oak wainscoting.
