Description
The former stables, located about 25 metres west of The Old House, were built in the 19th century and later modified in the 20th century. The building features ham stone that is cut and squared, with ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof between stepped coped gables, along with stone chimney stacks. It is two storeys high with a four-bay east elevation that is positioned at right angles to the road. The fourth bay is a 20th-century extension and is set lower than the others.
Bays one and three have circular panels with raised ashlar surrounds on the first floor, with the upper halves now fitted with radially glazed windows. The ground floor of these bays has segmental-arch French doors in a plain surround, with a matching blind opening in bay one. Bay two is gabled and slightly projects, featuring a 12-pane sash window on the first floor. Below the former segmental carriage arch, which is now filled with a six-panel door, there are sidelights and a radially glazed fanlight. Bay four has a similar segmental arch with garage doors, a small-pane casement window to the left, and a flat-roofed dormer above with small-pane casements. The rear of the building has leaded casement windows. The interior has not been seen. This building is included primarily for its group value with The Old House and the Church of St Martin.
