Description
Nos 7 and 8 Gentle Street is a former single building dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of rubble and has two storeys with three gables. The façade features three light casements with lath moulded stone mullions and drip moulds, along with one four-light casement. There are two plain doors, and a shop window from around 1900 with pilasters and glazing bars is located to the right. No 8 includes a later two-storey extension at the rear, which has a 17th-century studded door. The roofs are covered with pantiles.
Inside, the building has wide stop-chamfered beams. There is a central fireplace with a high pointed and chamfered lintel. The winder stairs feature a newel and risers with incised moulding, and the stair window has two lights with an ovolo moulded mullion. The first-floor stair door has a stop moulded ovolo surround. An original studded attic door with a rebate and incised surround leads to the attic in the roof space, which includes windbraces.
