Description
41 and 41A St Thomas Street is a house that was originally built in the 15th century and later remodeled in the 19th century. It is constructed from local roughly squared coursed stone, with Doulting stone dressings, and features a clay pantiled roof with plain gables and stone chimney stacks. The building has a three-unit plan.
The exterior consists of a single bay that is three storeys high, followed by two bays that are two storeys high. The first bay is mostly from the 19th century, featuring segmental-arched windows in brick surrounds, a three-light casement window on the ground floor, and above it, four-pane sash windows. There is a blocked doorway to the right. The second and third bays are set back slightly and have a tall plinth. Bay 2 has chamfered stone surrounds for its windows, with a three-light window below and a two-light window above, both having infill casements with four panes and four-centre-arched heads. There is a small gablet above the upper window, which has a carved trefoil panel. Bay 3 features a 15th-century moulded arched doorway, with a 19th-century doorway above five steps. Above this doorway is a two-light 15th-century window with trefoil-cusped arched lights and no label, topped with a raked roof. There are relieving arches over the lower openings. The interior has not been inspected.
