Description
St Austell House and Manoah is a former inn that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the early 19th century. The exterior features painted roughcast over rubblestone, a continuous plain tile roof with brick stacks at the gable ends, and a pantile roof on a two-storey lean-to at the front. Originally, it had a single-depth, possibly two-unit plan, but early 19th-century extensions created a double-depth layout. The building is two storeys high, with each cottage having one window range. Manoah, on the left, has 20th-century windows and a door. St Austell, on the right, consists of two parts; the left side has exposed rubblestone with an early 19th-century forward framed 8/8-pane sash window at eaves level and a planked door to the left, which was formerly a separate cottage. The right side is finished in painted render and features 19th-century two-light casement windows on both floors, along with a planked door to the left. At the rear, both cottages have four large 19th-century sash windows with 12/8 panes that served the assembly room of the former inn. The interior of Manoah has been altered.
