Description

These are a group of five coastguard cottages built in the mid to late 19th century. They are constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble with ashlar stone detailing, and have a continuous slate roof with brick stacks between each cottage. The cottages are arranged with double-depth plans and are built in the Tudor Gothic style. Each cottage is one-window wide. They have gabled fronts with a three-light casement window above, featuring stone mullions. The ground floor windows are larger and sit beneath a continuous string course. The two cottages at each end have single-storey canted bays with hipped roofs, and small lean-to additions containing doors; the central cottages have hood moulds and Tudor arches above planked doors, which are fitted with strap hinges. The interiors have not been inspected. The cottages are well-preserved and represent attractive examples of this type of building.
